What leaves your computer

No balances, no names

Only prices, exchange rates and the update check go online; the price services see the ticker symbols and coin IDs you track, never amounts or names.

Encrypted on disk

AES-256 database. Attachments and the JSON export are plain; add full-disk encryption.

Your keys, your copies

Recovery key, one-file backup, JSON export.

Every request also reveals your IP address to the service that receives it, as any internet request does.

Questions

The honest answers.

Is it really free?
Yes: Moony is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, with no paid tier, no trial and no account.
Why does my computer warn me when I open it?
The installers are not signed with Apple and Microsoft certificates yet, which is planned; until then macOS and Windows warn once, though the app is not damaged. Updates are signed by the project and verified before they install.
Does Moony collect any data about me?
No: the app has no analytics, crash reports or usage statistics. Its only requests are for prices, exchange rates and the update check, listed in full on the Privacy page.
What if I forget my password?
Use the 24-character recovery key Moony showed you at setup; it is the only way to reset a password. If you lose both, nobody can open your data, so keep a backup (Settings → Data and backups).
Can I use it on two computers, or on my phone?
No: Moony is desktop only and does not sync, because sync means a server. You can move your data to another computer with a backup file.
Does it connect to my bank?
No: you import the CSV statements you export from your bank, with 16 presets and column detection for other files. A bank connection would put a third party between you and your data.
